I woke up and got on the road around 7am. Today, I had 8-9 hours of driving. In my first few hours I could definitely feel the effects from the day before. I had strange muscles that were sore like my forearm from holding the steering wheel and tiny spot in my shin from the gas pedal.
I ate breakfast in Buffalo at Donut Kraze and got some donuts to bring home to the kids. I spent a lot of the day on the NY Turnpike which just drags and drags. It’s the same 4 restaurants, the same scenery, the same 1 lane construction for hours. However, I managed to pull off a 4 hour and 15 minute stint when I stopped in Albany. Easily the furthest I’ve ever driven without stopping. After stopping for lunch in Albany, I split off from NY turnpike and headed towards Vermont so I could come in from the north vs. the Mass Pike.
Unfortunately, for a while in Vermont I kept getting stuck on 1-lane mountain roads behind oil trucks. So, since I had plenty of time, I decided to change things up and I started stopping and searching for good Vermont beer. I snagged plenty of Heady Topper, Focal Banger and then some Switchback for my dad. I couldn’t find any Double Sunshine but that’s always pretty hard to find.
Eventually, I got focused again and headed for home. The roads started getting more familiar and I started getting more excited to be home. I arrived home around 5pm to an empty house haha. Everyone was at the beach enjoying the nice summer day.
They arrived home roughly an hour or so later and we were reunited! Everyone had made it home successfully from the road trip and we can now safely say that:
- We had blue sunny days every single day (except Jaclyn’s birthday lol)
- The kids did AMAZING sleeping in all the different places each night and never once woke each other up!
- We didn’t have any car issues at all
- We hit almost no traffic
- No one ate in Jaclyn’s new car (except for a few peanut butter M&Ms 😉)
