Today started with a 5:30am wake-up, but considering the west coast time difference and our history of very little sleep on vacation we were happy the kids slept this “late”!
Ari made us a nice breakfast with scrambled eggs and toast and Jay got up early to start working remotely for the day.
Libby brought us to mountain lake park which was just a short 8 min walk from their house. Then she went back to her house for a couple of work calls. The kids and I played on the playground for awhile and we briefly checked out the pond, but Brooke and I had the most fun exploring the low tangled trees lining the walking paths. She insisted that I “just keep my phone out and ready” because she was posing for pictures with just about every interesting tree we saw.
Then we went back to their house for a bit before our second outing of the day. Even though Libby wasn’t feeling well, she powered through and took us to the Presidio where we had a picnic lunch and enjoyed the view of the Golden Gate bridge. Brooke kicked a ball around the park and Beckett was as happy as could be playing with his Hotwheels cars. Then we checked out another really neat playground with lots of different climbing structures including this really tall one that fortunately had a couple nets inside which made me feel a little more comfortable about Brooke climbing to the top!
Back at the house, the twins were home after a day out with their nanny and Ari went to pick up his 1 year old niece who was going to stay at their house for the weekend. So, the house quickly filled with the sound of 5 little ones playing! Brooke was in Heaven playing with and helping to take care of the toddlers!
We gave the kids dinner and put them to bed and then Ari generously treated Jay and I to dinner at Mandalay, a Burmese restaurant with a James Beard award. It had a fun ambiance inside with lots of interesting Asian decor. We started with one of their famous appetizers, a tea leaf salad which was full of so many flavors and textures. Thanks, Libby for “holding down the fort” at home while the kids slept.
