Omaha, NE -> Rock Springs, WY (~750 miles)
We slept in a little later this morning and hit the road around 8am. At breakfast I got to use the greatest invention of the 21st century, the automated pancake machine! 2 pancakes in 1 minute!
We got on the highway and were promptly greeted by our GPS saying to continue straight for 739 miles lol. I guess we didn’t really need Google Maps today.
As we started driving it was really weird because it became really foggy and we probably only had roughly a 1/4 mile of visibility. Luckily there’s literally nothing you need to see, just keep it at 80 and keep the wheel straight. So, we did and eventually the fog disappeared only to reveal flat, boring farmland. I don’t know whether it was the accumulation of driving multiple days or the boredom of Nebraska but today was definitely the most challenging for me to put in long stints. Luckily my dad seemed to have plenty of energy.
After a few stints we stopped for some snacks but ended up getting lunch. My dad was excited to get his Hardee’s roast beef sandwich. I was trying to figure out how he even knew Hardee’s sells roast beef sandwiches. Well, he ordered it and it was pretty sad looking and he was pretty disappointed. After finishing our lunches and hitting the road we were talking and he realized that we confused Arby’s and Hardee’s haha. Whoops! Hardee’s does not “have the meats”!
I finished up Nebraska with another stint and we pulled into Cheyenne, WY. I had officially conquered the boredom of Nebraska. As we pulled out of Cheyenne we passed Sinclair, WY which is home to the Sinclair Oil refinery (with the friendly dinosaur). We agreed that we were happy that we don’t live near any refineries.
Of course, as soon as I handed off to my dad the road immediately turned into twisty roads through hills and mountains. So, he had a fun time with that and counting the number of times the pick-up truck in front of us drove his trailer off the side of the road. I think the final count was 8 or 9 times.
We arrived into Rock Springs, WY around 6pm and checked-in to the Sweetwater Lodge which was the best $107 hotel that we’ve ever stayed in (except the free breakfast). Then we went out to eat and relaxed and watched some TV before bed. One more long day tomorrow and then a fun touristy day for our last day.
